Background:
The current owner bought the property in the summer of 2011 and built the fence shortly thereafter. It did not follow City code. No one complained to the City about it, and the neighbor next door also has a 7-foot fence. Code Compliance staff noticed the violation for both properties and have cited both. The neighbor has not yet asked for a variance, but the owner of 11105 Vance Jackson has.

Subdivisions are allowed to have fences up to 8 feet – however, this landowner and his neighbor are obviously not in a subdivision as understood by the City code.

The Board of the Vance Jackson Neighborhood, Inc., met last night, February 26, 2015, and discussed the request of the applicant for a 4 foot fence variance.  The board agreed that the 7 foot fences were out of character with the surrounding area along Vance Jackson, as well as being against the building codes of the City of San Antonio.  It voted to oppose the request.
